Dr Julia Coop is the Managing Director of Athene Education Ltd and a highly acclaimed school lead inspector, Educational consultant, trainer and key note speaker. Until 2015 she was Director of Educational Development and training at Tribal Education. In this role she was responsible for the strategic and management of school improvement, training and CPD programmes for school leaders, teachers and Inspectors in the UK. She has also worked extensively delivering school improvement and effectiveness consultancy and training throughout the UK, USA, Singapore, China and the Middle East. She was awarded her Doctorate in 2005 for her work on inclusion and school improvement and is a guest Professor at Shenyang Normal University China in the department of School Effectiveness and Improvement. Prior to joining Athene Education she was a successful and highly regarded Early Years practitioner and head teacher in primary and special education. In her current role she has developed a suite of highly acclaimed and face to face training courses that fully reflect the recent changes within UK Education. She also works as a critical friend to schools, particularly those struggling to improve. She is most proud of the positive impact her work is having on improving teachers, middle and senior leaders professional and personal skills. Hazel has been a registered lead inspector for Ofsted for over fifteen years and is now an experienced education consultant and trainer with Athene. She started her career as a primary school teacher and went on to be a headteacher in two primary schools. In the past, Hazel has trained and mentored new inspectors and now uses her wide range of experience and expertise to support schools in their journey to further improvement. She has worked extensively with senior leaders to review their own schools, with middle leaders to promote their monitoring and evaluation skills and with teachers to develop their expertise towards outstanding practice.
Hazel also has a strong interest in Early Years Foundation Stage having taught in Reception and inspected privately run pre-school groups as well as the early years’ provision in maintained schools. A particular effective element of the training she has led is in supporting senior leaders to evaluate their Early Years Foundation Stage provision.
Carole is an Athene consultant with extensive experience in primary education. She has inspected more than 400 primary, junior, infant and nursery schools in the UK and Guernsey and has monitored schools in special measures. Trained as a mathematics specialist, Carole has also worked alongside HMI to conduct mathematics subject inspections which have contributed to national guidance. For the last ten years, Carole worked for Tribal where she held various posts of responsibility, including that of lead professional for children’s centre inspections. Carole is a highly experienced trainer who has delivered many courses for aspiring inspectors, National Leaders of Education and school leaders.
Athene Education are proud to be working with Wendy Forbes. Wendy is an education consultant to a number of national organisations, local authorities and individual schools Wendy provides a wide range of school improvement services. These include school performance reviews and pre-inspection support as well as bespoke school improvement support, guidance and training.
Wendy has worked in primary education for over 35 years including 15 years of highly successful headship. She was accredited as a lead inspector during a year’s secondment from headship to Ofsted HMI in 2007.
Bill has over 35 years service in the education sector, including 24 years in a variety of senior positions in schools, local authority and examination board. His experience includes Early Years to post 16.
Athene are proud have on board Martin Newell. Martin has led a significant number of school inspections over the last 15 years across both the state and independent sector. Martin is a high quality trainer and provider of professional development for school leaders, teachers and governors.
Following a successful 27 year teaching career in secondary schools including senior leadership positions, John left that behind in 2007 to work as an independent consultant and Athene are delighted to have him on board.
As an Athene consultant, John provides a wide variety of CPD and advice to primary and secondary schools. His focus is on helping leaders make better use of the Management Information Systems (MIS) within their school, and work in the field of school self improvement.
Kevin has over 35years experience as a teacher, deputy head, headteacher, Chair of Governors, Ofsted inspector and local authority adviser in supporting schools. Kevin is proud to be working with Athene to understand the issues that arise in running a school and the expectations of the Ofsted inspection framework. He can also call on experience gained working with Ofsted directly conducting survey inspections and inspecting hundreds of schools over the years – understanding the approaches that consistently work well and knowing the pitfalls to avoid.
